The Location - Wirksworth, Derbyshire

Rosemary Cottage is a charming terraced cottage in a quiet lane just a five minute level stroll from the centre of Wirksworth. Extremely well decorated and comfortably furnished, its traditional fireplaces and other features complement an attractive kitchen and a Victorian style bathroom.

Wirksworth, dating back to the old lead mining days, is a lovely town with a great character. It has many fine old buildings with picturesque alleyways and craftsmen’s yards for you to explore. Take time to browse around the traditional shops and award winning heritage centre, or have a pint in one of the numerous pubs. You will find a fine selection of real ales at the Royal Oak on North End or sample beers from the Wirksworth Brewery at 25 St. John’s Street. ( There is a small market on Tuesdays and a Farmer’s market on the first Saturday of the month.

The town has a well dressing in Whit week, and every September there is the unusual ceremony of 'Clypping', in which St Mary’s church is encircled by the congregation holding hands around it. Wirksworth has also recently developed an excellent Arts Festival, which happens over a weekend in September. The Wirksworth Festival includes all forms of Art, with the market square the centre for music, dance and street acts, while many of the houses around the town plays host to many different forms of artistic expression. Tours and tour maps can be bought in the local shops during the festival.
